Have you ever experienced a miracle before? A real miracle?
When you experience a miracle, it changes your life.

Illustration: A miracle I experienced on the beach in California

  • A girl in our youth group was carried down to the beach and set on a blanket near the campfire.
  • This girl was wheelchair bound, unable to walk.
  • The students were hopeful that she could be healed and be able to walk
  • I was sad for the students because I knew that the miracle wasn’t going to happen.
  • But, I saw it. She got up and walked. She was healed!
  • I saw it and it changed my life. It was a miracle.
  • The resurrection of Jesus was powerful to the disciples as well.

The disciples saw Jesus crucified. And then they saw him resurrected. This changed their lives. A few weeks after the resurrection, Peter stood up in Jerusalem to share with them exactly what had happened. Continue reading

  • On Wednesday, Fran McCaffery set his face on something: the NCAA Tournament
  • He had a goal to coach the Hawkeyes through the Tournament
  • But his son also was preparing to have surgery on a thyroid tumor
  •  Coach McCaffery made arrangements to be in Iowa City and then fly to Dayton, OH later that day.
  • The Hawkeyes lost the game
  • Two days later it was discovered that his son’s tumor was cancerous
  • Although Fran wanted to be with the team, he set his face to be with his family
  • This is a modern day example of something similar to what Jesus did

Luke 9:51
As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.

John 8:2-11 Continue reading

What was your week like? It’s been an interesting week! Crazy weather but Spring is on the way. Girls State Basketball going on. There is a lot happening.

The reason I ask how you’re doing is because Chapter 5 of Ephesians speaks to you where you’re at today.

Ephesians 1 – A good picture of what Jesus has done for us.
Ephesians 2 – The walls of hostility have been brought down.
Ephesians 3 – In God’s Kingdom, enemies come together as friends.
Ephesians 4 – We are called to be one.

Ephesians 4:1 NIV
As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.

Kevin, you don’t have Brett’s calling.
And, Kevin, you don’t have Sue’s calling.
If you try to live out someone else’s calling, it’s like a bad Elvis impression. Continue reading

Ephesians 6 is the wrap-up of a letter Paul wrote the the people in Ephesus. It’s a letter of encouragement, targeted to followers of Christ.

The end of a letter is an opportunity for Paul to offer some final encouragement.

Ephesians 6:10-11 NIV
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

“Finally” – This comes after a whole letter of describing how God’s love is open for anyone, Jew or Gentile. Anyone can come to God and be in His family. There is an audience watching the people who are living by faith, this is a spiritual issue. Continue reading

Today, we will dig into Ephesians 4.
Let’s look at Hebrews 11 to set the table for Ephesians-

Hebrews 11:1 NIV
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

Today’s sermon in a sentence: We are to make every effort to attain the unity of the faith in the fullness of Christ by turning from our ways to His was through His power.

We are going to spend six weeks studying Ephesians. We want you to immerse yourself in this book. It’s great!

Feel free to utilize a Bible App for your phone. YouVersion is a good one. My son downloaded it on my phone for me. I know it’s there, but I don’t know how to get to it!

A little bit about the impetus for what I have about Ephesians 1.

  • “I’m Hans, and I’m Frans, and we’re here to pump you up!”
  • We’re going to get pumped up today
  • Ephesians 1 is powerful
  • My hope is that you leave here today excited about what God has for you

Intentional Families Create Emotion [Sermon Video]

Dave Bartlett and I shared the Sermon on Sunday. We have video evidence:

  1. How can you better enjoy the emotions for your current phase of family?
  2. How can you keep the long-term picture in mind?
  3. In what way can you prepare yourself for an upcoming situation that may be emotional?
  4. How can you make peace in a way that helps with emotion?
  5. What one practical step can help you God’s truth in front of your current emotion?
